Fun Facts About Ana
Beyond her professional achievements, Ana is an artist with a flair for oil painting and a lover of historic architecture. A highlight of her career includes presenting her sustainable studio project at the Shanghai Energy Conference for Low Carbon Cities and exhibiting her art in Florence, Italy.
What’s your favorite place to be or that you’ll always love?
Firenze, Italy
How did that place impact your life-goals?
I first went to Firenze for my study abroad in Syracuse University School of Architecture. I learned a lot
about architecture by living in the urban fabric of a small historic city that is much difference from American cities. Living in a country and learning the language while living there is humbling and also taught me how similar as people we all really are. I have returned since my study abroad, and traveled many many other wonderful places since. Spending time with the people of a place, sharing food with them, and experiencing it like the locals is my favorite part of traveling.
What principle do you bring to your work?
Bring passion and creative thinking every day
What’s a greater purpose of architecture you’re passionate about?
Connecting to historic context and celebrating vernacular architecture
What’s your favorite part of the design process? / What’s do you think is the most
interesting part of architecture?
Researching and rediscovering the history of a place, as well as connecting to the people in the community who are using that place and space, is so much fun. I also love engaging with communities in design exercises to discover their processes and patterns and how they use their buildings or spaces, and
discovering ways that can make people work together more efficiently, collaboratively, and experience
architecture in beautiful and interesting ways.
Can you tell us about some cool projects and awards you’ve gotten over the years?
I maintain my LEED BD+C certification for sustainability. I have been lucky to be apart of a lot of fabulous projects, including the US Air Force Academy McDermott Library renovation, the Wellesley College library
renovation, and the Boston College Religious Archives library addition. I also have extensive medical and
education experience, high end luxury residential and low income residential design. I have also worked on breweries, government, industrial, and commercial projects.
We’re excited for Ana to bring her creativity, leadership, and technical skills to the Signal Works team. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome!
